History

Second of a series of 12 ships. Sisterships : CHARLES QUINT (1880), SAINT AUGUSTIN (1880), MOISE (1880), VILLE DE MADRID (1880), VILLE DE BONE (1880), VILLE DE BARCELONE (1880), ABD EL KADER (1880), ISAAC PEREIRE (1880), KLEBER (1880), VILLE DE ROME (1881), VILLE DE NAPLES (1882). Brought into service in July 1880 on the lines of North Africa, at the departure of Marseille. In 1889-90, undergoes a complete reconditioning and receives new boilers. In 1900, receives new boilers again. December 9, 1916, the steamer repulses an attack of submarine. Demolished in 1921 in Genoa, after a 41 years career!
