History
Fifth of a series of 12 ships. Sistership : CHARLES QUINT (1880), VILLE D' ORAN (1880), SAINT AUGUSTIN (1880), MOISE (1880), VILLE DE BONE (1880), VILLE DE BARCELONE (1880), ABD EL KADER (1880), ISAAC PEREIRE (1880), KLEBER (1880), VILLE DE ROME (1881), VILLE DE NAPLES (1882). Brought into service in July 1880 on the lines of North Africa, at the departure of Marseille. In 1891, is completely reconditioned and receives new boilers. In 1905, receives new boilers again. On three occasions, February 24, March 1 and June 25, 1916, repulses the attack of a submarine. Demolished in 1921 in Genoa, after a 41 years career!
