History
Built on behalf of Dutch shipping company KNSM under the name of STAD AMSTERDAM. Sistership : STAD HAARLEM. Brought into service in 1875 on the line of the Dutch East Indies. Bought by Transat in April 1879, like her sistership STAD HAARLEM. Renamed VILLE DE MARSEILLE and placed in June on a line connecting Marseille to Colon. From 1880, is placed on a line connecting Marseille to New York. From 1881 to 1889, serves, at the departure of Le Havre and according to the needs : New York, Mexico, Colon or Haïti. In 1886-87, undergoes a complete reconditioning. From 1889 to 1895 serves Colon at the departure of Marseille. In May 1895, is placed on the line of Haïti. Laid up in June 1900. Demolished in Genoa in 1902.
