History
Fourth of a series of 8 ships built on behalf of Compagnie Valéry and transfered to Transat in December 1880. Sistership: AFRIQUE (1872), AJACCIO (1872), LA CORSE (1872), IMMACULEE CONCEPTION (used as cargo liner by CGT, 1872), MARECHAL CANROBERT (1873), MOHAMED ES SADOCK (1873), LOU CETTORI (1873). Brought into service in 1872 on the lines of North Africa. Transferred to Transat in December 1880. In 1881, receives new boilers. In 1891-92, undergoes a complete reconditioning and receives new boilers. April 17, 1900, per foggy weather, runs aground on Cape Carbon, close to Bône.
