History
ROUSSILLON with LA BOURDONNAIS and MACORIS was one of the three German liners granted to the French Line on account of war compensation after 1918. Ex-GOEBEN of the Norddeutscher Lloyd. Belonged to a series of 9 ships built to serve the Far East. Put into service in 1907. Sister-ships : LA BOURDONNAIS (ex-SCHARNHORST). Remains confined in Vigo (Spain) during the whole duration of the first world war. Transferred to the French Government in January 1919 and granted to the French Line in 1920. Renamed ROUSILLON. Performs a trip between Marseille and New-York then assigned to the line Le Havre – New-York. Transferred to the line Bordeaux – New-York in 1923. Laid up in August 1930. Broken up in Pasajes, Spain in 1931.
