History
Second of a series of 8 ships built on behalf of Compagnie Valéry and assigned to Transat in December 1880. Sistership: AFRIQUE (1872), LA CORSE (1872), BASTIA (1872), IMMACULEE CONCEPTION (used as cargo liner by CGT, 1872), MARECHAL CANROBERT (1873), MOHAMED ES SADOCK (1873), LOU CETTORI (1873). Brought into service in 1872 on the lines of North Africa. Transferred to Transat in December 1880. Used to serve North Africa and Corsica. In 1881, receives new boilers. January 25, 1900, under chartering of Compagnie Fraissinet, runs aground at the entry of the harbour of Marseille and capsizes on the side. 1 victim. Declared total loss.
