liner NAPOLéON

Compagnie Générale Transatlantique, 1959 - 1969

liner Napoléon
History
First "car-ferry" of the Company and first ship of this type in service on the lines of Corsica, NAPOLEON is the ancestor of the large current transporters of the SNCM. She was also the first ship of Company to being equipped with bow thrusters and automatically inflated lifeboats. Completed December 1959 and entered in service in January 1960. White hull (the first intent of painting the hull in black was not retained). Her first use as car-ferry in March 1960 is marked by a conflict with the dockers who refused the loading and the unloading of the private cars by the passengers. In 1962, takes part in the repatriation of the French people of Algeria. Transferred in 1969 to the CGTM which gathers together the Mediterranean services of Transat and Compagnie de Navigation Mixte. Same service. Sold in May 1974 to a Saoudi shipping company and renamed Al PASHA. Demolished in 1988.
