History
Fourth of a series of 12 ships. Sistership: CHARLES QUINT (1880), VILLE D' ORAN (1880), SAINT AUGUSTIN (1880), VILLE DE MADRID (1880), VILLE DE BONE (1880), VILLE DE BARCELONE (1880), ABD EL KADER (1880), ISAAC PEREIRE (1880), KLEBER (1880), VILLE DE ROME (1881), VILLE DE NAPLES (1882). The first of the series to enter into service. Inaugurates on June 30 the 1880 Mediterranean services of Transat by a crossing from Marseille to Algiers with a call in Port-Vendres and Barcelona. In 1891, receives triple expansion engines and new boilers. In 1904, undergoes a new reconditioning. Sold for the demolition in 1923, after a 43 years career!
