History
First of a series of 8 ships built on behalf of Compagnie Valéry and assigned to Transat in December 1880. Sistership: AJACCIO (1872), LA CORSE (1872), BASTIA (1872), IMMACULEE CONCEPTION (used as cargo liner by CGT, 1872), MARECHAL CANROBERT (1873), MOHAMED ES SADOCK (1873), LOU CETTORI (1873). Brought into service in 1872 on the lines of North Africa. Transferred to Transat December 1880 and put into service in May 1881 on the lines from North Africa, at the departure from Marseille. In 1887 and 1892, receives new boilers. In 1896, is transformed into cargo liner. In 1901, is sold to a Marseille demolition contracter who resells her to "Société Française des Phares du Levant et de la Mer Rouge" (Levant & Red Sea Lighthouses French Company). Used for the maintenance of the lighthouses and beacons. Resold in (?) to a turkish ship-owner and renamed AFRIKA. Demolished in 1907, after a 35 years career.
