Compagnie Générale Transatlantique, 1881 - 1906

History
Eighth and the last of a series of 8 ships built on behalf of Compagnie Valéry and alloted to Transat in December 1880. Sisterships : AFRIQUE (1872), AJACCIO (1872), CORSE (1872), BASTIA (1872), IMMACULEE CONCEPTION (used as cargo liner by CGT, 1872), MARECHAL CANROBERT (1873), MOHAMED ES SADOCK (1873). Brought into service in 1873 on the lines of North Africa. Transferred to Transat in December 1880. In 1881-82, receives new boilers. In 1891, undergoes a complete reconditioning and receives new boilers. In 1896, is transformed into cargo liner. Demolished in Cherbourg in 1906.
