Compagnie Générale Transatlantique, 1880 - 1890
History
Built on behalf of the British shipping company J. M. Wood and Company under the name of ABANA. Brought into service in 1879 on the lines of Levant. Bought in June 1880 by Compagnie Générale Transatlantique with her sistership AKABA (renamed FLACHAT) and ALEXANDRE BIXIO. Renamed LE CHATELIER and placed on the service line of the West Indies and the Central America, at the departure of Marseille then of Le Havre. On November 13, 1890, runs aground close to Saint-Gildas, in the mouth of the Loire, and breaks into two.
