History
Sixth of a series of 8 steamers with wheels ordered, for 3 of them, in Scotland, and for the 5 others from the shipyards Penhoėt lately created. Sisterships : WASHINGTON (1864), LAFAYETTE (1864), IMPERATRICE EUGENIE (1865), EUROPE (1865), FRANCE (1865), PANAMA (1866), SAINT LAURENT (1866) modified on drydock into propeller ship. Brought into service in February 1866 on the line of Mexico under the name of NOUVEAU MONDE. In 1875, is transformed into propeller steamer and her hull lengthened of 17 meters. Three masts instead of two. Renamed LABRADOR and put into service in November 1875 on the line Le Havre-New York. In July 1886, is victim of a fire in New York. In October 1886, is transferred on the line of Mexico. In 1889, receives triple extansion engines and new boilers. Demolished in 1905 in Genoa, after 40 years of service.
