Compagnie Générale Transatlantique, 1920 - 1934

History
LA BOURDONNAIS, with ROUSSILLON and MACORIS, was one of the three German steamers allotted to Transat according to the war compensations, after 1918. Ex-SCHARNHORST (8.131 then 8.388 tjb) of Norddeutscher LLoyd. Belonged to a series of nine ships built to serve the Far East. Brought into service in 1904. Sistership : ROUSSILLON, ex-GOEBEN. Between 1908 and 1914, is used, according to the needs, on the line of New York or a line connecting Europe to Australia. Laid up in August 1914. During the first world war, is used as ship-hospital and transport of troops. Is transferred to French Government in January 1919 and is allotted to Compagnie Générale Transatlantique in 1921. Renamed LA BOURDONNAIS. Assigned to the line Le Havre-New York. Transferred on the Bordeaux-New York line in 1923. In 1931, is assigned to a line intended for the emigrants connecting Le Havre to Halifax. Demolished in Genoa in 1934.
