History
Second of two ships designed for the transport of the emigrants. Sistership : MISSOURI (1920). Brought into service in May 1921. Used on the lines serving North America and the Central America. Between 1923 and 1925, is assigned to the service line of the Baltic. She would have inaugurated the new port of Gdynia in Poland, built with the assistance of France. On February 26, 1926, is tossed in a violent storm off Newfoundland. The steamer DE GRASSE (1924) of Transat tows her away from the danger zone then passes the relay to the tug boat TERRA NOVA and ship-hospital VIRGINIA. The towing of the ship, handicapped by an enormous water leak required two weeks of efforts on the whole. Laid up in 1932 (or 1934?). Sold for the demolition in the Netherlands in December 1936.
