Compagnie Générale Transatlantique, 1929 - 1934
History
Second of a series of three ships designed for the transport of the emigrants. Sisterships : FLORIDA (1907), TEXAS (1908). Brought into service in December 1908 under the name of CAROLINE. Used on the lines of the North Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico. On August 18, 1917, repulses an attack of submarine by gunfire. After the first world war, is employed in the Baltic sea then on the Bordeaux-Casablanca line. In 1929 is renamed JACQUES CARTIER. Used as training ship for the officers of the company, to replace the first ship of the same name, herself renamed WINNIPEG. Laid up in Brest in December 1931. Demolished in Genoa in 1934.
