Compagnie Générale Transatlantique, 1881 - 1888
History
Built on behalf of Compagnie Valéry under the name of PRINCE NAPOLEON. Brought into service 1861. Serves successively Corsica, Italy and North Africa. In 1871, is renamed INSULAIRE. Is transferred to Compagnie Générale Transatlantique in December 1880. Serves Corsica, Sardinia and Tunisia, at the departure of Marseille. In 1886, is transformed into cargo liner and is placed on a line connecting Saint-Nazaire to London. Sold in 1888 to a Turkish ship-owner. Renamed BENGAZI then BINGAZI. Demolished in 1920, after a 59 years career!
