History
Built on behalf of the ministry of Merchant Marine, to be entrusted with management to the Messageries Maritimes. Finally, is exchanged for the mixed cargo liner WASHINGTON (1930) of Transat. Brought into service in October 1939. Is requisitioned at once. In October 1940, is seized by the British authorities. Used as patrol craft. From 1942, carries out regular crossings in the North Atlantic, generally alone. A British project of transformation of the ship into an escort carrier will not succeed. In July 1945, is returned to the French authorities. In 1948, becomes the property of Compagnie Générale Transatlantique. Used on the lines serving North America, the Central America and the Pacific. In May 1957, is sold to the Société Générale des Transports Maritimes et à vapeur and is renamed MONT VENTOUX. In 1963, is resold to a Greek ship-owner, renamed AMBASSADE and immediately sold for the demolition.
