Compagnie Générale Transatlantique, 1880 - 1898

History
Built on behalf of the British shipping company J. M. Wood and Company under the name of AKABA. Bought on slipway in 1880 by Compagnie Générale Transatlantique with her sisterships ABANA (renamed LE CHATELIER) and ALEXANDRE BIXIO. Renamed FLACHAT and placed on the service line of the West Indies and the Central America, at the departure of Marseille then of Le Havre. Thereafter, will be used on various transatlantic lines and in the Mediterranean. In 1890-91, receives new boilers. In 1896, is placed on the line of Colon. On February 16, 1898, runs aground per foggy weather on the Island of Teneriffe, at one mile of Santa Cruz. Between 77 and 84 victims, according to the sources.
