History
Ex-GRANTALA, second of a pair of two ships built on behalf of the Australian shipping company Adelaide Steamship Company. Sistership : YONGALA. Brought into service in March 1904 on the Melbourne-Fremantle line. Used until her sale in 1916 on various coastal connections. From August 1914 to February 1915, is used like ship-hospital. Bought by Transat in 1916 and renamed FIGUIG. During the hostilities retains her British flag. Assigned in 1920 to the Bordeaux-Casablanca line. Take part in March in a vain attempt for refloating the VENEZUELA steamer, stranded on the Moroccan coast. In April 1927, is transferred on the lines of North Africa, at the departure of Marseille. From 1931, is used like a composite cargo liner with a very reduced capacity of passengers. Demolished in 1934.
