History
Built on behalf of Dutch shipping company KNSM under the name of STAD HAARLEM. Sistership : STAD AMSTERDAM. Brought into service in 1875 on the line of the Dutch Indies. Bought by Transat in April 1879, like her sistership STAD AMSTERDAM. Renamed VILLE DE MADRID then FERDINAND DE LESSEPS. Placed in June on a line connecting Marseille to Colon. From 1880 and until 1902, mainly serves Colon or Haïti, at the departure of Le Havre or of Marseille. Is also placed occasionally on other connections. In 1885, receives new boilers. From 1902 and until 1910 serves the line of Haïti exclusively. In 1895, undergoes complete reconditioning and receives new boilers. A mast is removed. Laid up in January 1910. Demolished in Cherbourg (in Dunkerque?) in 1911, after a 36 years career.
