History
First of a series of 5 ships. Sisterships : DUC DE BRAGANCE (1889), MARECHAL BUGEAUD (1890), VILLE D'ALGER (1890), GENERAL CHANZY (1891). Brought into service in September 1888 on the lines of North Africa, at the departure of Marseille. During her maiden travel, carries out Marseille-Algiers, a crossing record in 24 hours. Sold for the demolition in 1929, after a 41 years career.
