Compagnie des Messageries Maritimes, 1851 - 1866
History
Iron steamer with 2 masts, 2 chimneys, paddle wheels and cutwater stem of the same type that HELLESPONT and ORONTE built by Vence of Atelier Bênet de La Ciotat for Compagnie des Bateaux à Vapeur du Levant Maison Rostand which assigns her to the semi-monthly service Marseille-Livourne-Malta-Syra-Smyrna-Constantinople. Transferred with HELLESPONT and ORONTE on November 12, 1851 (date of registration of the sale contract) to Société Anonyme des Messageries Nationales, she ensures the 2nd departure of September 19, 1851 bound for Italy and Malta. She remains assigned for all her career to the line of Italy, except some voyages on the postal line of North Africa in 1855 and a few periods like stationary in Constantinople from 1859 to 1862. She is broken up in La Ciotat in November 1866.
