History
Eighth of a series of 12 ships. Sisterships : CHARLES QUINT (1880), VILLE D'ORAN (1880), SAINT AUGUSTIN (1880), MOISE (1880), VILLE DE MADRID (1880), VILLE DE BONE (1880), VILLE DE BARCELONE (1880), ISAAC PEREIRE (1880), KLEBER (1880), VILLE DE ROME (1881), VILLE DE NAPLES (1882). Brought into service in July 1880 on the lines of North Africa, at the departure of Marseilles. In 1890, undergoes a complete overhauling. In 1905, receives new boilers. In 1909, is assigned as a stationary ship in the Antilles. Demolished in 1922, after a 42 years career!
